Statement

Bare flesh, criminal deities, and barren lands of eerie light; I paint the images of a metaphorical other world, where god is held accountable and the human form becomes idol.  Reconciling the worlds of religion and sexuality is both a paradoxical and universal act.  The human creature cannot separate from the ideas of god in the same way one cannot escape the primal urges of one’s sex.

The timeless nature of this concept calls for a dialogue with the visual language and terrible beauty of paintings from the past.  Using clarity of contour to emphasize humanity and greaten the contrast of our pulsing being to the vastness of eternity, along with more ambiguous chiaroscuros the blend us into that eternity, I call on the Byzantines, Mannerists, Nazarenes and many others in an attempt to cope, in one way or another, with the awesome and unanswerable questions of where we come from and who we are.
